Strategic acquisition strengthens Somru's global CRO platform, connecting North America and South Asia to support multinational clinical research and drug development programs
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada • Dhaka, Bangladesh — 17 June 2026
Somru BioScience Inc., a Prince Edward Island headquartered Canadian biotechnology company and contract research organization (CRO), today announced that its Bangladesh affiliate, Somru BioScience (BD) Limited, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Novus Clinical Research Services Limited, one of Bangladesh's established contract research organizations.
The acquisition represents an important step in Somru's strategy to build an integrated global clinical research platform connecting North America and South Asia. By combining Somru's expertise in AI driven bioanalytic, immunogenicity assessment, biomarker analysis, and regulatory support with Novus' local clinical research capabilities, the organization will be better positioned to accelerate pharmaceutical, biotechnology, vaccine, and biosimilar development programs across multiple regions.
“This milestone is about more than expanding our footprint. It creates a meaningful connection between Canada and Bangladesh that will foster scientific collaboration, facilitate technology transfer, and attract new investment while enabling clients to access a broader range of research and laboratory capabilities through a single global platform,” said Mohammed Moin, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Somru BioScience Inc.
“We expect this platform to attract additional international projects to our Canadian operations in Prince Edward Island while strengthening Bangladesh's position within the global clinical research ecosystem.”
“Bangladesh offers access to a highly diverse and clinically relevant patient population, creating significant opportunities for sponsors conducting vaccine, infectious disease, biosimilar, and therapeutic development programs. By combining Novus' local operational expertise with Somru's strengths in bioanalysis, biomarkers, immunogenicity, regulatory science, and AI-driven data analytics, we can generate high quality clinical data more efficiently and support the development of innovative therapies for populations with substantial unmet medical needs,” said Rafiq Islam, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Somru BioScience Inc.
Founded in Prince Edward Island, Canada, Somru has grown from a local biotechnology startup into an internationally recognized CRO serving clients across North America, Europe, and Asia. The acquisition of Novus strengthens the company's ability to support sponsors seeking efficient, high quality clinical research solutions and access to diverse patient populations in emerging markets.
Novus Clinical Research Services Limited has supported clinical research and pharmaceutical development activities in Bangladesh and brings valuable local expertise, scientific talent, and industry relationships. Somru plans to invest in quality systems, workforce development, laboratory modernization, and technology transfer initiatives to further enhance Novus' capabilities and expand the services available to local and international clients.
The transaction also represents a meaningful foreign direct investment into Bangladesh's growing healthcare and biotechnology sector. Somru intends to support the development of highly skilled scientific careers through technology transfer, advanced training programs, and the introduction of internationally recognized quality and operational standards.
Looking ahead, Somru's vision is to develop Novus into a regional center of excellence supporting clinical trials, bioequivalence studies, central laboratory services, biomarker testing, and biosimilar development programs. The expanded platform will allow sponsors to access integrated scientific, laboratory, and clinical research capabilities through a single global partner.
The announcement comes as Somru prepares to participate in the BIO International Convention, the world's largest biotechnology conference, where the company will showcase its growing global capabilities and explore new opportunities for collaboration with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare organizations from around the world.
Following completion of the transaction and applicable regulatory formalities, Novus Clinical Research Services Limited will operate as part of the Somru global network, supporting clients across North America, Europe, Asia, and emerging markets.
